The most spectacular moment in a sunset is often only seconds before the sun disappears below the horizon. It is well worth waiting for.Photo by Gohraymond

Sunsets Photography
One of the most popular subjects for photographs which include the light source is the sunset. This occurs at any time from two hours brfore the sun disappears below the horizon until about 30 minutes afterwards.During this time the light drops rapidly, perhaps as quickly as one f stop aminute. You will therefore have to check the exposure every 30 secends. You will notice when looking at sunsets that as the sun sinks lower in the sky it appears to grow larger and the light it gives gets progressively redder. For these reasons a longer focal length lens will give the most effective repersentation of the sun and,of course,an extreme telephoto gives those dramatic shots of a huge red ball touching the horizon.
As with most landscapes, foreground objects can be included in sunsets pictures to great advantage. They should be chosen for their sharp in silhouette,as well as for their contribution to the overall scale of the image.A meter reading taken from the sky when the sun is below the horizon will turn backlit forms into silhouettes.Boats on water highlighted by the sunlit sky, trees and recognizable structures such as famous buildings all benefit from the simplification that a sunset silhouette gives, allowing the photographer to concentrate on shape and pattern.Using a wide angle lens has the effect of making the sun smallers and the foreground correspondingly more prominent.
